North Lakes
Castlehead
The view from Castlehead is wonderful with a panoramic of some of Lakeland’s prime scenery. Only 10 minutes walk from the town centre this rewarding viewpoint can be reached by heading down Borrowdale Road and past George Fisher. Geologically it was an old volcanic plug, now it's a pleasant wooded knoll with scots pine, two benches and a plaque naming the surrounding fells on its top. Skiddaw can be seen to the north, Grisedale Pike and Causey Pike to the west and Cat Bells rising up from the shores of Derwentwater to the south. Great End and the Scafells can be seen on a clear day further down into Borrowdale Valley.
