Ashness Bridge

Probably one of the most photographed views in England is the image of the small, humped-back packhorse bridge of Ashness, set in front of the backdrop of Derwentwater, Keswick and Skiddaw (3053ft/931m) in the distance. The road continues up past Surprise View, to the isolated hamlet of Watendlath, home of Hugh Walpole’s fictional Judith Paris of the Herries Chronicles.
