Pike Hill lookout tower over Hadrian's Wall
Before the Roman wall was built there were a number of Forts already in use on the Roman road between Corbridge and Carlisle. This lookout tower at Pike Hill was incorporated within the wall because of its commanding views. The wall was originally built to ‘separate the romans from the barbarians’ according to Hadrian's biographer.
