Lanercost Priory
Lanercost Priory was founded around 1166 by Henry II. When completed in 1220, canons came from the priory in Norfolk, and stayed there for some 370 years until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536. Lanercost was situated in a useful position for both the English and Scots and the priory endured years of conflict, many times being torched, most noticeably King David.
