Western Lake District
Workington
Workington was once a thriving industrial town with an abundance of iron foundries and a busy port. Relics of its history can be seen in parts of the old town to the east; Workington Hall dating from the 14th century was home to the Curwen family. The modern centre is now alive with an excellent range of shops, cafés and arcades like the colourful St John's arcade seen on the right.
