Western Lake District
Buttermere - St James' Church

Situated on a little knoll just above the village of Buttermere, the charming parish Church of St James looks out over some of the best scenery Lakeland has to offer. Red Pike and High Style rise up above the other side of Buttermere, with Haystacks at the far end of the lake. There is a plaque in the church which asks you to pause and remember Alfred Wainwright (1907 – 1991), the fell walker who wrote so lovingly about the fells in this region.
