Eden Valley & North Pennines
Lacey's Caves

Lacey's Caves are carved into red sandstone high above the river eden. They were hewn by a Colonel Lacey in the 18th century for private pleasure. The caves can be reached with comparative ease along a route which uses mostly access roads. The views across the river help to explain why somebody would go to these lengths for pleasure.
